KASTOORI CUTTINGS

For more than 21 years, we have fed more restaurant critics than we can remember. We have never had a bad review – although our early décor took the occasional hit! Below is a brief sample of some recent write-ups that are typical of the pleasure our food continues to bring our customers.

The Guardian
Divine gastronomic experiences.

Tatler
Draws the great and the good to Tooting.

2007 Michelin Guide
There are over 9,000 Indian restaurants in the UK, the majority of which are seemingly content to merely churn out the same old anglicised favourites. Thanks, therefore, are due to places like the Kastoori which offers something both original and authentic.

... The extensive vegetarian and vegan menu features both Gujarati specialities as well as flavours from East Africa. The result is a unique blend of fresh and exhilarating tastes, full of such vitality that even the most rabid carnivore will not notice the lack of meat.

Gourmet (New York, USA)
After the trek to South London, you might wonder what the fuss is all about. But once you taste the Gujarati vegetarian specialties, you'll understand. The owners grew up in Uganda and bring a bit of Africa to the table
– you've never tasted spices like these.

2007 Good Food Guide
Still one of the best vegetarian restaurants in London, this long-running family business continues to provide excellent Gujarati-style home cooking from one year to the next.

2008 Michelin Guide
*** Bib Gourmand Award ***
This is all about the owners, the Thanki family, celebrating their East African and Gujarati heritage though their cooking and the pride they have in their restaurant is obvious to everyone. They even make their own garam masala to a secret recipe involving the roasting of over 24 spices.

2010 Good Food Guide
A Tooting treasure since opening in 1987, Manoj and Dinesh Thanki's affable restaurant continues to offer Gujarati vegetarian food with a very personal stamp. Classic street snacks such as bhel puri and dahi vada set things up for a range of zingy, fresh-tasting curries.

The Guardian Weekend
For years I've been bringing fiercely carnivorous friends here and not once have they noticed the lack of meat.

Harpers & Queen
A delicious, versatile and imaginative cuisine, far too good to be enjoyed only by vegetarians and vegans.

Waitrose Food Illustrated
Tooting is home to a pantheon of curry deities but its supreme being is Kastoori… at these prices we could afford to be greedy. The food was divine: I'll be back to worship at it soon.
